Who we are
A few words about us....
Cove Crest Vineyard and Griggs Winery is a small, family owned vineyard and winery in the mountains of northeastern Shasta County, California. Allan is a native of Santa Rosa, California and has been a wine enthusiast all of his adult life. Mineca was born and raised in The Netherlands and loves art, music and creative cooking. The picture on our home page which is also on all our labels is her attempt at an artistic rendition of our winery building.
Our name comes from our area, "The Cove", which extends from the Flat Woods to the Pit River. The Cove is rich in deep volcanic soils and abundant springs. Enjoying warm summer days and cool nights, Cove Crest at 2,300 ft. elevation is ideally located for growing premium grapes. At Griggs Winery we let the Cove's climate take time to develop the fullness of our wines. We shun harsh filtering, allowing cold winter months to slowly and naturally clarify the wine.
We are small, and I mean VERY SMALL! Just the two of us, Allan and Mineca Griggs, do all the work. Our vines are tended and harvested by hand, and our wines are made and bottled by hand as well.
Our first vines were planted in 1997, and we became a bonded winery in 2006. Allan has been making wine for 35 years, but our dream of having our own vineyard and winery has finally become a reality.
At Cove Crest, we don't make a lot of wine, but we strive to make the best.
Our mountain vineyard
Our vineyards are surrounded by wooded mountains, we have abundant pine and cedar trees, as well as oaks. Below is a picture of our chardonnay ripening in the sun.
